The Andalchron Scientific-Technical Service, part of the Multi-Scale Laboratories of the European ERIC-EPOS infrastructure, offers services for the determination of isotope ratios by plasma source mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for use in isotope geochemistry and geochronology. The service is equipped with a single quadrupole ICP-MS (Thermo Finnigan iCAP QR) a double quadrupole ICP-MS/MS (Agilent 8800), a high-resolution magnetic sector analysis ICP with multi-channel detection MC-ICP-MS (Thermo Finnigan Neptune XT ), and different systems for the introduction of solutions, and solids via laser ablation (LA-ICP-MS and LA-MC-ICP-MS). The service offers ancillary services in microscopy and spectroscopy, sample preparation, and clean room laboratory aimed solely and exclusively at the characterization and/or preparation of samples associated with mass spectrometry services. Users should contact the service to assess their analytical requests.
As part of the quality control system employed routinely by our analytical geochemistry and geochronological services, Andalchron regularly participates in the following international laboratory Proficiency Testing programmes of the International Association of Geoanalysts:
- GeoPT for measurement of elemental compositions in geological materials.
- G-Probe designed to evaluate laboratory performance for those labs specialising in the use of microanalytical techniques (LA-ICP-MS and EDS-SEM) for the analysis of minerals and other geological materials.
- G-chron for laboratories active in the field of U-Pb age determinations to directly evaluate their data quality and to document their competence in this field of metrology.
